Camping

Who says you need to leave school to go camping?

This week, Horizon learners headed to the library for a camping adventure—books included! Mrs. Reiland transformed the library into a cozy campsite where students could curl up under tents, read by lantern light, and enjoy the feeling of gathering around a campfire.

With tables turned into tents using tablecloths, the library was full of cozy reading spaces. Glowing lanterns and a campfire on the digital board added to the atmosphere and created lighting and ambient sounds of a comforting, crackling campfire as students experienced reading in an entirely new environment. The library became a place where imagination and adventure came alive—not just through the books students were reading, but through the experience surrounding them.

Mrs. Reiland did an incredible job creating a space that made learners feel cozy, curious, and excited to pick up a book. Sometimes, changing the environment is all it takes to make something familiar feel brand new.

There were no sleeping bags required, but there were plenty of books, smiles, and eager readers!

At Horizon, we know that building lifelong readers isn't just about teaching students how to read. It's about helping them discover the joy of reading and creating experiences that make them want to come back for another chapter.

Thank you, Mrs. Reiland, for creating a little reading magic at Horizon!
