Mrs. Valerio and Mrs. Van Voorst exemplify integrity, innovation, and community through their leadership and dedication to the Horizon SPED department. They consistently step up to support their colleagues, lead the team, assist with assessments, and do whatever is needed to ensure our students receive high-quality services. They approach challenges with a solutions-focused mindset, collaborate to strengthen our practices, and willingly share their time and expertise to help others succeed. Their commitment goes far beyond their individual responsibilities, and their willingness to lead, support, and problem-solve makes our SPED team stronger and more effective. They truly embody what it means to put students first, support one another, and make our entire school community better.

Everlee has gone above and beyond in the classroom by modeling our PAWS expectations. She does an excellent job being a role model to others!

Day one of our 5th-grade crossing guards was a HUGE success! We are so grateful for our student leaders who stepped up to serve and help keep our Horizon community safe. A big shoutout to Mrs. Keupp for organizing this awesome opportunity—and for kicking off day one in a full safety cone outfit! 😂💛🖤 Way to lead, Horizon!

Good News Call!! Easton has been crushing his goals and accepting responsibility, even when it's hard! I am so proud of all of his hard work and goal setting!

Mr. Sanne consistently demonstrates integrity and dedication by showing up, stepping up, and following through—even when he doesn’t have to. He understands that his presence matters to his students, and he makes the choice to be there because he knows they are counting on him. He works hard, keeps his commitments, and leads by example through his actions. His dependability and strong work ethic make a difference, and his students and H-Team are better because of the commitment he brings every day!

Ximena comes to school every day ready to learn and consistently puts forth her best effort on assignments. We are proud of her amazing accomplishments so far this year!

He takes initiative and gets things done without being asked! Whether setting up the gym for assemblies, ensuring classes are covered, or playing music to welcome students in the morning. Mr. Walker sets students up to be fit for life. He comes up with fun, innovative games that keep everyone excited and engaged. He shows up, steps up, and makes great things happen. He is a tremendous asset to our H-Team!

On October 9, Mrs. Kraayenbrink presented to the Horizon staff on how one can build a classroom where clear expectations, positive relationships, and purposeful instruction help students succeed. Her approach focuses on making expectations clear, communicating goals to students, and recognizing success. She understands that students are more successful when they know what they are expected to do, what they are working toward, and what success looks like. By communicating success, celebrating positive choices, and providing students with opportunities to lead, Mrs. Kraayenbrink builds confidence and reinforces expectations in a way that supports both learning and behavior. Mrs. Kraayenbrink's willingness to open her classroom practice to colleagues gave our staff tangible ideas they can implement immediately to help make H-School the Best School!

Established by President John F. Kennedy in 1962, National School Lunch Week highlights the importance of healthy lunches and their impact on children inside and outside the classroom. The National School Lunch Program serves nearly 30 million children every school day.

Math is happening every day in Mrs. Brink’s first-grade classroom and in all classrooms!

Our learners are using Number Corner to build their math understanding through quick, engaging routines. In October, students are exploring part-part-whole relationships, patterns, number stories, equations, data, shapes, and more—all while counting the days of school and making observations about the calendar.

We love watching our Horizon Learners think like mathematicians, explain their reasoning, and make connections!
